Rumble Road

Rumble Road

Rumble road was a project I made using raw C++ and OpenGL, with the graphics library SOIL to display sprites.

It was made in my second year of my university degree so it’s rough around the edges, but I think it well displays my passion for movement based mechanics in games. I spent a long time tuning the movement of the car to get drifting to feel satisfying but still controllable, using multiple functions for wheel traction for a given speed, depending on the current state of the slide.

This project also taught me the importance of code management and organization early on. Working without an engine forced me to organize my code into modular, reusable classes, and that continues to show in the work I do today.
